Has summer eluded you despite your best intentions? Before those magical summer days vanish into fall, now is a good time to pack your suitcases, load up the car and embark on your end-of-summer escape.
Here are 5 ways to get your fun in while there’s still time:
1.Get out! Summer just wouldn’t be summer if you’re stuck in your house, and that goes for any other indoor venue for that matter. So get out, breathe some fresh air and feel the sun on your skin. If you are going out to eat, ask to be seated in the patio. Plan outdoor activities such as bicycling, picnics in the park, and outdoor movies. Now is a great time for summer sports like baseball, swimming, tennis, or even good old fashioned dodge ball.
2.Seek alternative destinations. Even if you’re on a tight budget, you can still find great ways to entertain yourself without breaking the bank. For instance, if Las Vegas is calling, but that’s not financially feasible, consider Laughlin, NV. Located 90 miles from Vegas, Laughlin is another great casino town that offers top entertainers, but has less expensive hotels and the bonus of being situated on the Colorado River. Find a map and see what smaller cities are close to the major ones. You may be surprised at what they offer.
3.Get some R & R. True vacations must include a little rest and relaxation. Otherwise, going to all the tourist hot spots and trying to take in all the sights can seem like a job. You don’t want that! Select a few attractions that you really want to see and don’t forget to include some down time in between. Spend time the pool at your hotel or treat yourself to a massage.
4.Create your own fun. Don’t forget to bring along your playing cards, dominoes and other games for those times when you want to keep things simple and may not feel like going out. Games are wonderful ways to bond with family and friends.
5.Use your discounts. If you belong to AAA, AARP, Costco or other member groups, you are probably entitled to travel discounts. Don’t ignore these valuable savings. You could save up to 20 percent—and in some cases even more. For online savings, check out Groupon or any of the travel sites such as Orbitz and Priceline.
There is a sixth benefit to taking 5, and the most important one of all—your health. If you’ve been feeling stressed out or run down, or advised by your doctor to slow down, it’s time to take a break.
The importance of rest cannot be overemphasized. Stopping to “smell the roses” is very therapeutic so please don’t ignore this advice. Your body, mind and emotions will thank you.
