The 1st Annual, 1st Community Wide Youth and Young Adult Fashion Show at New Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church was a smashing success. Among a packed house of family friends and guests, youth hosts kept the crowd engaged as they introduced the models.
The event kicked off with a red carpet grand entrance. Babies to teens all graced the red carpet and posed in front of the steps, showing off their summer styles.
The event segued into the auditorium where the remaining guests awaited the moment they’d all been waiting for. The gym was decorated with festive trim, and the runway was professional crafted. We were all on the edge of our seats.
Before the first set of models hit the runway, guests mingled amongst themselves, exchanged hugs and grabbed tasty treats from the delectable taco bar, which offered chicken and beef tacos with all the savory toppings you can imagine. Cake pops and gourmet cupcakes awaited our palettes after we finished the main course, by far, one of my favorite parts of the evening.
The most exciting part of the night, however, was when the young people finally got a chance to exhibit their individual styles. Babies rocked their sporty outfits accompanied by mommy or daddy and wobbled their way down the runway as everyone watched in awe and snapped photos for Facebook and Instagram. The older youth seemed to have found their “inner models” as they struted down the runway with style and high confidence.
There was not a face that wasn’t stretched from ear to ear with a smile at this event and it wouldn’t have been possible without the foresight of Rev. Tim Griffith and Project Coordinator Cathy Thomas and the help of the many volunteers and companies who donated service to put on an event for young people. If you missed it this year, I must say, you missed out on a historic night for our community. You may want to call the church now at (310) 673-6250 to see how you can get involved next year.
Salute to New Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.
