It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas  in the 90305, as the City of Inglewood and the “Fabulous” Forum announced plans for an event that is rapidly becoming a beloved holiday tradition -- the City’s annual “Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony” -- to be held on Thursday, December 3. Last December, nearly 4,000 residents attended the first Lighting Ceremony at the historic venue, a fun event which included joyful children meeting Santa Claus, a presentation of the colors from Inglewood Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, live entertainment, and representation from Inglewood officials. This year, the event is set to be bigger and better than ever!

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. the Yuletide event will kick-off with a color guard.  Local dance troops and elementary school choirs, including soloists, will perform. Inglewood Mayor, James T. Butts along with city council members and community leaders will deliver holiday greetings.

The sound of police sirens and fire engines will herald the arrival of Old St. Nick as Santa and his sleigh parade down Prairie Avenue on the way to the Forum with a police and fire escort. Upon arrival, Santa will pose for photos with children and a “North Pole” mailbox will be unveiled for everyone to drop off letters to Santa and his elves. Plus, Santa hats will be distributed and Christmas stockings will be handed out to children specifically selected by the city.

When it comes time to light the tree, Mayor Butts will throw the oversized “light switch” to illuminate the silver-and-red-trimmed, 55-foot tree from Victor’s Custom Christmas Trees (the world's No. 1 largest distributor of live, fully decorated Christmas trees).

During the evening, holiday music will be playing while a snow machine will repeatedly drop “real” snow. Coffee, tea and hot cocoa stations with delicious desserts, cookies, holiday treats and candy will be available for all.  A Coolhaus ice cream truck will also be on site to offer the exclusive Forum ice cream sandwich and other selections to attendees.  Throughout the event, carolers will be strolling through the crowd singing seasonal favorites. Following the ceremony, a DJ will be spinning party music for the crowd.

Mayor Butts said, “This is going to be the biggest and best Christmas celebration in the history of the City of Inglewood. We can’t wait to see the community gathered at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum.”

Dana DuFine, SVP West Coast Business Operations, Madison Square Garden Company said, “We are proud to be a part of the community and look forward to celebrating the holidays with our extended family of friends here in Inglewood.”
