Los Angeles will host Super Bowl LV in 2021, NFL owners voted Tuesday. The event will be held at the $2.6 billion NFL stadium and entertainment complex that Rams owner Stan Kroenke has committed to building in Inglewood. NFL owners also voted in Charlotte, North Carolina, on host cities for Super Bowl LLIII and LIV taking place in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Atlanta was chosen to host the Super Bowl in 2019 and Miami will host in 2020. Los Angeles was seen as a likely pick for hosting either the 2021 game, since the Inglewood stadium is expected to be completed in 2019.

“The City of Inglewood is thrilled to be the host for the most watched, single sporting event in the world, Super Bowl LV,” said Inglewood Mayor James Butts. “Working with the City of Los Angeles, we intend to help make it the greatest fan experience in the history of the NFL. After a 20 year hiatus, professional football is back.”

The Super Bowl bid includes 60,000 hotel room nights (with the possibility of generating up to 100,000 total room nights). While the Super Bowl will be held in Inglewood, other official and unofficial events will be hosted throughout the region. The Los Angeles Super Bowl Bid Committee will be responsible for raising appropriate funds to offset costs and will work closely with the NFL to deliver the most successful Super Bowl to date in 2021.

“By being selected as the host of the 2021 Super Bowl, it’s clear the NFL was tremendously impressed with the many strengths of Los Angeles such as our near-perfect weather, abundance of premier venues for ancillary events, world-class hotels and endless entertainment,” said Ernest Wooden Jr., president & CEO of Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. “We are appreciative of the true collaborative effort from L.A.’s hospitality businesses and community leadership in securing a successful bid for our destination.”

This will be the eighth time the Super Bowl is played in the Los Angeles region, the most recent being in 1993 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (Super Bowl XXVII).
