More and more, the annual Black Friday shopping frenzy has inched its way into family time on Thanksgiving Day. If you are prone to skip out on Turkey Day festivities and head for the mall, you’ll need to know which retailers are saying no to business on the holiday.
The trend is reversing now, with the buying public criticizing retailers that stay open on Thanksgiving Day, saying the policy is disrespectful and unfair to employees. However, retailers like to point the blame at consumers—according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey, almost six in 10 Americans plan to shop Thanksgiving weekend.
TheBlackFriday.com, has listed major retailers that have decided to give employees the day off. Stores choosing to close on Thanksgiving Day include: Costco, DSW, Nordstrom, Guitar Center, Burlington Coat Factory, Game Stop, Lowe’s, Ikea, TJ Maxx and Pier 1 Imports.
Stores that will remain open include: Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Macy’s, J.C. Penney, Sears, and Big Lots. Some stores will open as early as 6am and others will open in the evening. Go to TheBlackFriday for specific store hours and updates.
